The School is seeking a part-time permanent Production Manager to support its many programs and activities.  The ideal candidate would have the following attributes:

  • experience in production management in dance
  • good written and oral communications
  • highly organized with the ability to manage projects effectively on schedule and budget
  • strong interpersonal skills to be able to work successfully with a diverse student body and a variety of stakeholders
  • an interest in working with students in their training and education

Under the direction of the Artistic Director, and working closely with the Managing Director and other staff members and faculty of the School, where appropriate, provides supervision and direction to volunteers in carrying out the programs of the School. Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • production support for all three mainstage performances, student workshops, student productions:
    • building production schedules with Artistic Director
    • assisting with drafting contracts for designers
    • facilitating production meetings (planning and post-production)
    • liaising with the production team, staff, choreographers, rehearsal directors
    • managing the personnel schedule for all productions
    • all duties around gathering/purchasing music for performances, burning CDs, etc.
    • engaging/coordinating with videographer for show order runs, performances, special events and coordinating archival video
    • handling the distribution / delivery of files (or production of DVDs) for choreographers
    • building production schedules with Artistic Director
    • facilitating production meetings (planning and post-production)
    • coaching and supervising student production teams
    • technical/production support for special events for all School programs
  • wardrobe assistance – ensuring preparation for performances/restoring wardrobe post-production
  • training of students to assist with tech support (masking, sound equipment)
  • production support for off-site or outside regular school activities such as Dance Ontario DanceWeekend, Fall for Dance North, Older and Reckless, New Blue Festival, Nuit Blanche, etc.
  • upkeep of School equipment (tech and other) and storage of School equipment
  • training of School staff on School/theatre equipment (audio, video, projection, lighting control, wiring/plugs connections, etc.)
  • Spec-ing required for tech equipment for School (e.g. new projector, laptop etc.)
  • technical/production liaison with Toronto Dance Theatre and the Winchester Street Theatre
  • Where appropriate, provides support and or supervision to other staff members, student employees, and volunteers carrying out the School’s programs and initiatives, including fundraising
  • other responsibilities as assigned

Particulars of the Position:

  • Part-time, approximately 17.5 hours per week, evening and weekends required.
  • Remuneration: prorated from annual base salary range of $36,000 – $41,600, plus 4% paid vacation
  • Start Date: August 26, 2019
