Professional Training Program
Notes to incoming first year students:
The School of Toronto Dance Theatre continues to be committed to in-person training, as much as is permitted within the guidelines provided by the Ministry of Colleges and Universities through the Private Career Colleges branch, the Government of Ontario, and the City of Toronto. We have been successfully working in a hybrid model (second and third year students both in-person and online) since October 15, 2020 while maintaining stringent safety protocols. We had originally planned to bring first year students into our hybrid model commencing January 4, 2021.
Given the current regulations announced on November 20, we have determined instead to start first year students online on January 4, 2021, ultimately bringing them into the hybrid model on February 16, 2020. We would therefore ask all first-year students who are not currently residing in Ontario to arrive in the province by February 1, 2021, to observe a 14-day isolation period. Should health and safety guidelines require a further delay of in-person training, we will adhere to those requirements and delay our in-person start until April 6, 2021.
Though our intention is to provide in-person training for all our students, we recognize this to be a challenge and we will continue with our hybrid model of programming. If a student cannot, or does not feel comfortable attending the School in person, we will accommodate that student and provide remote learning for the balance of the School year.
Throughout our planning, the School is adhering to all the health and safety protocols as regulated by the government and recommended by public health professionals, and will continue to observe these protocols, and update them as events progress. The building at 80 Winchester remains closed, and School staff and faculty continue to work remotely. Please reach out to us by email and let us know if you have any questions or concerns. We will continue to provide updates as more information becomes available.
If you have been in contact with someone who has COVID-19, avoid contact with others and follow-up with your health care professional. As always, if someone is experiencing cold or flu-like symptoms, you are encouraged to stay home or seek medical attention. Information on preventative measures may be found on the Government of Canada website, and for current updates from Toronto Public Health, please visit toronto.ca/coronavirus.
Your health and safety, and our commitment to excellence in training, continue to be our top priorities. Thank you for your patience and understanding as we strive to provide the best possible program we can offer. We look forward to welcoming first year students in the new year!
