July is always busy here at the School, and this year was no exception! We started off with our two-week Summer Intensive, welcoming a group of enthusiastic dancers from across Canada, Mexico, and the US.
Our one-week Teen Intensive brought together a diverse group of dancers from 13 to 16 from across Canada for a week of intensive training in technique and repertory.
Here are just some of the things this year’s Summer Intensive participants shared about their experience at the School:
I absolutely loved it! From the teachers, to the beautiful stained glass windows in studio C, to the percussionists, and the way the movement was taught, I knew the next two weeks were going to be the best two weeks of my dance career so far.
I liked the camaraderie shared with my peers. It was fun to meet so many people from around the world, each with a unique way of approaching movement. I learnt a lot from seeing how other people create and manipulate movement.
You learn so much there, and everyone is so supportive! The days are a great length, with just the right amount of breaks, and everyone works so hard. You meet dancers from all over the world, but somehow still feel connected to everyone there, even complete strangers. The school is gorgeous, and I loved dancing in the theatre with the stained glass windows. Would highly recommend to all dancers!!
… it was really fun and that you get really sore after a couple of days, but is totally worth it. It is really informative about the different types of dances and the teachers are really nice. It was an amazing experience.
And – what has already become a great #summerdance tradition – our summer intensives dancers had a blast taking African dance workshops with Pulga Muchochoma:
Dance Camp for kids ages 4 and up turned into a week-long adventure filled with dance, music, games, laughter, and creativity!
