The Kathryn Ash Scholarship is a merit-based award given to a deserving student going into their final year of study and is the equivalent to one-half of one year’s tuition.
The two extremely deserving recipients of this year’s Kathryn Ash Scholarship are Yiming Cai and Gwendolyn Mitchell.
“Yiming is considered by faculty to be an outstanding student whose commitment is sine qua non. One senior faculty member said that he was “one of the most exceptional students I’ve ever had”. He is always present, attentive, and working as fully as possible. He goes to the very depths of his investigation in his artistic practice and is never satisfied with less than his absolute best. Yiming works diligently in all aspects of his engagement with the School – as a student, staff member, and essential contributor to the dynamic of a healthy workplace and artistic environment.”
“Gwendolyn submitted a very full, well-written, and articulate application. It was excellent, candid, and revealed her thoughtfulness as well as her maturity. She draws inspiration from her peers, believes in the importance of collaboration – in life and in art – and leads by example through her strong work ethic and commitment. Gwendolyn lives, eats, and breathes dance. She is a very fine dancer, is clear in her goals for professional development, and shows great promise for an exciting future.”
