We are delighted to announce that this year’s Kathryn Ash Scholarship has been won by Joshua Sailo.  The Scholarship is a merit-based award given to a deserving student going into their final year of study.  It is made possible by donations to the Kathryn Ash Scholarship Fund and is the equivalent to one-half of one year’s tuition. The final decision was made by a panel of senior faculty, staff, and Board members.

The Scholarship is awarded for:

  • consistent demonstration of artistic and technical accomplishment
  • receptiveness to the learning process
  • curiosity, investigation, and exploration
  • evidence of progress
  • performance quality in class and on the stage
  • work ethic, commitment, attendance, and professionalism
  • integrity and dedication
  • a passion for the craft of the dancer, and the art of dance

In their deliberations, the panel found Joshua’s writing to reveal the spirit of an artist with a world view and a vision for dance and for the arts. He impressed the panel with his curiosity and interest in creativity – which will take him far. The panel also remarked on the maturity of his approach to his art, his interest and involvement in the larger dance community, and his intentions for his own artistic development.  Faculty note that he is focused, determined, dedicated; he dances with energy, commitment, and intelligence.  His work ethic has enabled quick progress … and he is a pleasure to teach.

We congratulate Joshua!
